BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Cane Bay YMCA is expected to be completed later this summer in Berkeley County.
It's located on Cane Bay Boulevard in Summerville.
On Thursday, YMCA leaders kicked off its Capital Campaign to raise $5 million for special programs.
There's nothing quite like the soon to be Cane Bay YMCA in this area of Berkeley County.
Debra Williams lives nearby and is ready for it to open.
"I'm excited for the conference room, the workout room, the sauna, the pool, everything," Williams said.
The 68-acre facility will include a pool, indoor track, gym, wellness center, tennis courts, a basketball court ,sports fields, multi-purpose rooms, event space and more.
"It's our intention to teach every second grader in Berkeley County to swim," said Paul Stoney who is the president & CEO of YMCA Greater Charleston. "The money will be used for a variety of areas such as program areas for our children as well as senior adults."
"This is a great project for Cane Bay, for Berkeley County, for the Lowcountry and we'll even have youth come up here from Charleston to utilize the athletic fields and the great gym that's being constructed," said Bill Hall who is the fundraiser Chairman.
This will also be the first YMCA with a public library.
"We see it everyday as we pass and go into our entrance, so now to have it almost ready and completed, everyone is very very excited," Williams said.
The $26 million project is planned to be open by mid-September for families to enjoy.
