BOILING SPRINGS, NC - Seven runs in the final two innings propelled Charleston Southern (17-32, 8-16) to a 7-2 win over Gardner-Webb (27-24,12-12) on Sunday to take the weekend series.
Trailing 2-0 in the eighth inning, the Bucs put two on base for Kyle Vesnesky, who singled to score a run. The next batter, Ryan Stoudmire, hit a home run to left field that gave CSU a 4-2 lead. In the ninth, Stoudemire came to bat again with two on, and again, he homered to left field to drive in three runs and push CSU out to a 7-2 lead.
A two-run home run allowed Gardner-Webb to score first in the game. The two teams combined for just three hits through the first four innings. Cody Maw made a strong start allowing two runs through five and two-thirds innings.
Wil Hartsell (2-4) got the win for CSU. He worked two and two-thirds scoreless innings with one hit and four strikeouts.
Wil Sellers (4-2) took the loss for Gardner-Webb. He pitched two innings and allowed five runs on six hits and one strikeout.
