CHARLESTON, SC -

The Citadel baseball team dropped the final home Southern Conference series finale of the season 14-3 to UNCG Sunday afternoon as the Spartans racked up 17 hits compared to eight by the Bulldogs.

Prior to the game, the Bulldogs celebrated Senior Day and recognized the team's eight seniors: Taylor Cothran, Clay Martin, Kyle Smith, Jonathan Sabo, William Kinney, Thomas Byelick, Jordan Buster and Ryan Stamler.

UNCG (37-12, 18-3 SoCon), which clinched the regular-season SoCon title with the seven-inning victory, started the game off with two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead, but the Bulldogs (17-32, 6-15 SoCon) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.

Bryce Leasure led the inning off with a single to center field and advanced to second on a single by Cothran. Ryan McCarthy then loaded the bases with a single to shallow center field. Two at-bats later, Martin drew a two-out walk, pushing Leasure across the plate and Sabo then chopped a blooper of a single to first base and scored Cothran.

The Spartans retook the lead with one run in the top of the third and another in the top of the fourth. UNCG then added three runs in the top of the sixth and put the game away with seven in the seventh.

The Bulldogs did manage to score one final run in the bottom of the seventh as Sabo raced home off a Martin sacrifice fly to center field.

Eight different Bulldogs notched a hit in the game while Austin Embler, Caleb Webster and Dillon Stewart all had three hits for the Spartans.

Dylan Spence (L, 3-5) pitched the first five innings for The Citadel before giving way to Stamler, Ian Foggo, Shane Connolly and Devin Beckley. Jake Lewis (W, 6-0) earned the win for UNCG while Easton Welch (S, 3) earned his third save of the year as he came on to pitch with just a two-run lead.
