CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A snapped cable inside the structure of Wando Bridge is scary.

It looks like the problem will be a minimum 48-hours, maybe longer, as the westbound lanes remain closed and traffic is re-routed for repairs.

As frustrating as it is, officials did the right thing closing the bridge.

It’s worth noting the Wando bridge, which connects Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island, is 27 years old and was designed by the same company that built the pedestrian bridge that collapsed in March on the campus of Florida International University.

While everyone wants traffic problems resolved quickly, safety should be the top concern, even if repairs take a little longer.
