MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - As the Wando Bridge closure has shown, traffic volume in the Lowcountry is an issue. Over on another Charleston County Highway, officials are working to improve and potentially ease traffic congestion on Highway 41.
The corridor is a hurricane evacuation route and a key corridor in and out of Mount Pleasant. A public informational meeting will happen Wednesday night in the Park West Gym at 1251 Park West Blvd in Mount Pleasant from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Since the first public meeting , officials say the project team has been working to move the project into the "next phase" of development. The project team has also completed data collection and done preliminary environmental an traffic studies, officials said.
The project goals include improving capacity along the corridor, compete the Gregorie Ferry Road connector, improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians, and improve the capacity at Highway 41 and Highway 17.
