Woman accused of trying to sneak contraband into Lieber Correctional during visitation hours

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A woman is facing charges following an incident last Saturday at Lieber Correctional Institution.

Shavonna Viola Whiteside is charged with one count of possession of contraband and one count of criminal conspiracy.

According to the affidavits, Whiteside put a clear wrapped package of tobacco inside her pants and passed it to inmate Joseph Whiteside.

The South Carolina Department of Corrections considers tobacco a contraband item.
