CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - It's not very fun to sit in traffic, but Charleston's minor league baseball team is making the most of the Wando Bridge closure.
The Charleston RiverDogs will open their gates at precisely 5:26 p.m., 34 minutes earlier than normal for all weekday home games until the bridge reopens. Right now, SCDOT has set a target date of June 11.
"Opening our gates at 5:26 will allow our fans to come straight to the ballpark from work, rather than have to go home and risk getting caught up in traffic," RiverDogs president and general manager Dave Echols said. "We figure fans would rather be out at the ballpark enjoying a $1 beer than sitting in their cars."
The RiverDogs host the Columbia Fireflies this weekend with 7:05 p.m. starts on Thursday and Friday night, a 6:05 p.m. start Saturday and a 5:05 p.m. start on Sunday.
