CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say the two center lanes on the Ravenel Bridge will be handling traffic heading to I-26 westbound during peak traffic hours.
The move, which started around 3 p.m., is to ease traffic congestion due to the Wando Bridge closure.
This comes after Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie convened a meeting on Thursday at Town Hall to coordinate efforts with emergency officials to work on solutions to the traffic congestion due to the Wando River Bridge closure.
According to a press release, authorities worked on a Ravenel Bridge ramp modification to I-26 to be implemented during peak traffic hours in the morning and afternoon.
Town officials say the new ramp modification is expected to ease the commute of many.
"We believe that this ramp modification will promote improved traffic flow westbound onto I-26, while at the same time developing new transportation patterns until the Wando River Bridge reopens on June 11," Haynie said.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution while travelling on newly patterned roadways.
