Orangeburg daycare recovers after flooding forced about 35 kids to evacuate

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The owner and workers at a daycare in Orangeburg County are taking steps to clean up damage from flooding caused by rain on Friday.

Kids in Motion Daycare on Russell Street was shut down at 10:30 a.m. after heavy rains caused the parking lot to flood.

Due to the extreme flooding, first responders were called to evacuate about 35 children, according to the property manager of the daycare facility.

"Water had quickly risen to the point it entered several levels of the buildings, forcing administrators and children to higher portions of their school—and to call for help," Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said.

The owner of the daycare center said Saturday that cleanup was well underway.

She said she expects the center to be open again on Monday morning for regular business.

The children ranged between one and four-years-old. Parents were able to pick up the students nearby once they arrived.

No injuries were reported during this incident.
