CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A local fraternity chapter gathered to raise money for the youth.

On Saturday, the Mu Alpha Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, along with others in the community, ran a 5K around Hampton Park to help raise funds to send young men attend Camp Hanes - a day camp in North Carolina.

Mu Alpha Basileus Linus Brown said it is important to get boys active during the summer.

"It gives the parents a break for a week of their child having fun in North Carolina and they're taken care of by our camp counselors - which is the sixth district,” Brown said. “It's an excellent opportunity for kids who may not have another opportunity."

The goal is to sponsor between 10 and 20 boys.

All the proceeds raised will go directly to helping the boys go to camp in July.
