CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - It's a very special day in the Palmetto State.
South Carolina became a state on this day in 1788. The state was just the eighth to join the union at the time.
It was ratified by a vote of 149-73. A map shows how the vote broke down at the constitutional convention.
Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maryland all ratified it before South Carolina.
