LYNCHBURG, VA - No. 3 seeded Liberty (30-25) managed to hold off No. 7 seeded Charleston Southern (19-35) 4-2 on the second day of the Big South Conference Baseball Championship on Wednesday.
Liberty's D.J. Artis led off the bottom of the first inning with a double in the gap. He scored later in the inning to give his team a 1-0 advantage. Artis walked and scored again in the fifth to help the Flames add to their lead. Liberty extended their lead to 4-0 when a safety squeeze bunt was followed by a RBI triple in the seventh inning.
The Bucs attempted to mount a comeback in the seventh inning as Jason Miller and Aaron Miller led off the inning with back-to-back hits. After a fly out moved both into scoring position, Jason Miller scored on a wild pitch, but Aaron Miller was later stranded on third when the side was retired.
In the ninth inning, Aaron Miller and Ryan Rizk got the rally started with back-to-back doubles with Miller scoring to make the score 4-2. Despite the hot start, CSU couldn't finish the rally, leaving two runners on base to end the game.
Noah Skirrow (4-3) got the win for Liberty. He worked six and one third innings with one run, six hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts.
Tyler Weekley (4-7) took the loss for CSU, throwing five and one third innings and allowing four runs, on six hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.
Garret Price (5) picked up the save for Liberty, allowing one run on two hits and two strikeouts.
