MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - SWAT teams used gas canisters to get a Mount Pleasant man out of his home after police say the man refused to come out after he threatened to kill his neighbor and burn down his home.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department charged Timotheaous Washington with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
Washington's arrest stems from an incident on Wednesday at 7:18 p.m. when officers responded to the 300 block of 4th Ave. for a disturbance.
"As officers were attempting to determine the cause of the disturbance, the suspect cursed at them and ran inside his home," MPPD officials said.
The victim told officers that the suspect attempted to stab him with a knife, threatened to kill him, and burn his house down.
"Officers continuously tried to make contact with the suspect, Timotheaous Washington, and get him to come out of his home but he refused," police said.
According to a police report, the Crisis Intervention Response Team attempted to persuade the suspect to come out of his home but he continually refused.
"After numerous unsuccessful attempts to get Mr. Washington to come out, the Special Weapons and Tactics Team used gas canisters that forced him outside where he was taken into custody," police said.
He was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
