NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

The Dorchester County Coroner has identified the person killed while attempting to cross Dorchester Road early Sunday morning.

Frank T. Ellis, 67, of Summerville was struck by a vehicle near the 8000 block of Dorchester Road shortly before 1 a.m.

Authorities say Ellis was not inside the crosswalk when he was struck. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash caused Dorchester Road at Ashley Phosphate, between Appian Way and Forest Parkway, to close from 12:30 a.m. until 3:40 a.m., according to Charleston County dispatch.

No charges have been filed against the driver. The investigation is ongoing.
