CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - With hurricane season officially starting June 1, South Carolina's governor has issued a week of preparation starting Sunday.
Governor Henry McMaster has issued the South Carolina Hurricane Preparedness Week starting May 27 and running through June 1 when hurricane season begins.
Residents are encouraged to prepare an emergency kit for three days without electricity, according to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.
You can find a full list of what you would need here.
SCEMD says it is also important to keep your kit in a convenient well-known place that can stay dry until there's a need for it.
During this week, residents are also encouraged to look at your evacuation route, for some people it may be different from last year.
Families are encouraged to talk about what you would do if a hurricane were to come.
