CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that it will make a slight shift in how it manages rush hour traffic during the Wando Bridge closure.

Officials say the adjustments to the traffic plan include some SCDOT SHEP units shifting to I-26 along with some South Carolina Department of Public Safety troopers during peak traffic hours. The SHEP vehicles are out to try and help disabled motorists who may have a flat tire or run out of gas on the road. Anyone with an issue is asked to dial *47.

SCDOT says it's trying to be more responsive to moving traffic during those peak hours. The move comes less than a week after traffic backed up for 15 miles during a morning rush hour last Thursday.
