CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - One place where nobody wants to end up during a hurricane also wants to make sure you're ready when one hits.
MUSC is hosting its 19th annual hurricane awareness day on Wednesday. Officials with the hospital system say a "diverse" group of agencies and departments from around the Charleston area will be on hand to talk about hurricane preparedness.
Topics will also include family and home preparations. This year, the National Weather Service, Joint Base Charleston, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division and the Charleston Fire Department will all be on-hand.
The event begins at 10 a.m. at the MUSC horseshoe on Ashley Avenue and runs until 2 p.m.
The SCEMD also unveiled a new app on Tuesday called "SC Emergency". Features of the new app include a map of evacuation routes by zone, traffic conditions, a personal checklist for packing to evacuate and recommendations on what to bring, an emergency whistle and help call, and a method of reporting storm damage.
