The State Firefighters' association swore in a new president on Friday.

Dorchester County Fire Chief Tres Atkinson was sworn in as the 72nd SCFA president.

Atkinson, who has 31 years of experience in fire service said he is humbled to serve as association's president.

"I will work diligently to make educated decisions to better our state fire service," Atkinson said.

George Bailey, Chairman of the Public Safety, Health and Human Services Committee of County Council said Atkinson was the right choice for the position.

"Creating a countywide fire department and hiring Tres Atkinson to run it is one of the best decisions County Council has made," Bailey said. "I'm happy to see his leadership and dedication to improving fire service has been recognized by his peers."

Atkinson joins Doug Warren, Dorchester County Director of EMS and Mario Formisano, Dorchester County Director of Emergency Management, who also serve as President of their respective state associations.
