(RNN) – According to their Facebook, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office searches all of its inmates, “no matter where they come from.”

After all, you never know what might show up with them.

Or, in this case, in them.

The office, situated east of Atlanta, near Athens, posted a picture of a plastic bag full of dozens of pencils. We’ll let them explain further:

“This morning a female inmate came to us from Emanuel County State Pen. Per policy we searched her and pulled this out of her, uhhhh birth canal. In addition to what you can see here there were 7 pairs of tweezers and numerous bobbie pins.”

“You can not make this up,” the post reasonably concludes.

The post so far has been shared more than 1,000 times with more than 2,800 reactions.

Among the many comments, more than a few pointed out that such an arrangement appeared like it might be quite painful.

One astutely noted: “Looks like she may be an author.”

On a more practical level, the sheriff’s office engaged with one comment that came from someone who said he’d worked in jails before.

“I’ve never heard of a black market for pencils,” the commenter wrote.

According to the sheriff’s office, though, they’re pretty useful for a particular prison hobby: tattoos.

“Mix the lead with spit or water, and you can knock out a prison tat,” the sheriff’s office wrote.

And one person asked where Emanuel County was.

“Swainsboro,” the sheriff’s office replied, “where there isn’t a pencil to be had anywhere.”
