CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Cleanup has started at Coast Bar & Grill in downtown Charleston following record-breaking rains.
The restaurant, located at 39 John St., lost part of its roof during heavy rains on Friday.
Restaurant goers said the roof collapse was unfortunate.
"There was a lot of rain yesterday, so I guess I wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen," Charleston resident Katie MacAdams said. "But I just feel bad for the business, to be honest."
Even people visiting Charleston stopped by Coast today to check out the damage.
"We ate here Thursday evening," Charleston visitor Martin Hoffman said. "It was excellent. First time we've tried it."
The National Weather Service says almost three inches of rain Friday surpassed the daily record of 2.18 inches back in 1893. Crews haven't determined the official cause was for the collapse.
There is no official timeline for when the restaurant will re-open.
Crews said Friday that the repairs could take several weeks.
