ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) - Orangeburg County deputies arrested the man they say is responsible for a shooting over the weekend that left a woman dead.
West Frederick, 46, was charged with murder Tuesday, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff's spokesman Richard Walker.
Deputies responded to an incident at a Mel's Court address Saturday just after 5 a.m. where they found a 34-year-old woman suffering what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the upper body, Walker said. Multiple witnesses told deputies they heard a single gunshot.
"Investigators developed a possible name early on in this case," Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said. "It appears at this point that an argument developed between these individuals. It is a terrible shame because no argument on this earth is worth taking someone's life."
The two were believed to be acquainted before the shooting, deputies say.
West was denied bond Tuesday and deferred to a circuit judge.
