KIAWAH ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A former Kiawah Island official has changed her plea to guilty in a wire fraud case involving her and the former treasurer of Kiawah Island, Harrison Gunnells.
Tumiko Rucker pleaded guilty to conspiracy following allegations wire fraud and misuse of town funds according to court records.
A grand jury indicted the pair in mid-November 2017. Rucker was the town administrator, the highest ranking town employee, and reported to the mayor. Both employees were later fired from the town.
Both had initially pleaded not guilty in the case, but Gunnells also changed his plea last month.
If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
