LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A former Lexington County deputy sheriff has been arrested in connection with sharing confidential information.

On Friday, Brandon Williams Jones, 32, was charged with public official use or disclosure of confidential information, according to South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesperson Thom Berry.

From January 1 through July 5, Jones allowed unlawful examination of private records of individuals to citizens and friends by sharing personal identifying information of others, according to court documents.

This information included driver's license information, Lexington County Sheriff's Department call logs, crime scene photos, incident reports, and active investigation information.

Jones was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center. His case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor's Office.

The charge was based on an investigation by SLED, interviews, statements, and cell phone examination.
