WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a woman has been transported to the hospital after she was attacked by a family dog.

Emergency officials say it happened at a home on Ashley Hall Road in West Ashley.

According to Charleston police, around 4:23 p.m., an American Staffordshire Terrier Mix attacked a 23-year-old woman.

She was transported to MUSC suffering from several bites.

Police say the woman was walking the Terrier, and when they got back inside the home, the Terrier and another dog started growling and barking at each other.

According to authorities, that's when the woman grabbed the Terrier's harness and the dog attacked her.

Both of the woman's arms suffered injuries, and her left arm was also broken in the incident.

CPD officials say the woman's mother got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the Terrier several times to get it to stop which it eventually did.

The family made the decision to take the Terrier to the vet and have it euthanized, police said. The family says the dog was not vaccinated.
