Cougars' Non-Conference Schedule Set

VIDEO: CofC releases non-conference schedule

CHARLESTON, SC - The defending Colonial Athletic Association champion College of Charleston men's basketball team will be challenged early in non-conference play by a pair of Atlantic 10 Conferences foes in Rhode Island and VCU as well as the start of a series with Oklahoma State over the next three years.

"It was really important to create a tough non-conference schedule as we prepare for a challenging CAA slate," said CofC Head Coach Earl Grant, who enters his fifth season at the helm. "We certainly feel that we've accomplished that and I know our players will be up for the challenge."

The Cougars, who return three starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's NCAA Tournament squad, will officially open their 2018-19 campaign with Presbyterian on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at TD Arena.

The home slate also includes an exhibition game versus NCAA Division II Benedict College on Nov. 1, Rhode Island (NCAA Second Round) on Nov. 13, South Carolina State on Nov. 28, Charlotte on Dec. 1, NCAA Division II Georgia College on Dec. 9 and Coastal Carolina on Dec. 21.

This year's non-conference schedule will pit Coach Grant ('00) versus his alma mater, Georgia College, and Assistant Coach Quinton Ferrell ('07) against his alma mater, Presbyterian.

During the Thanksgiving holiday break, the Cougars will take part in the 2018 AdvoCare Invitational on Nov. 22, 23 & 25 at HP Field House located at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. There, the strong tournament field includes defending national champion Villanova, Florida State (NCAA Elite 8), LSU (NIT Second Round), Memphis, Oklahoma State (NIT Quarterfinals), UAB and Canisius (CBI First Round).

Road trips are also scheduled to Western Carolina on Nov. 10, Oklahoma State on Nov. 18, VCU on Dec. 15 and Siena on Dec. 18. The OSU game is the first of a 2-for-1 series with the perennial Big 12 Conference power and the VCU game the first of a home-and-home series with the Rams.

The CAA conference schedule will be announced next week and game times at a later date.
