Deputies hold active shooter drills at Georgetown HS

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office teamed up with the Georgetown fire department, police department and school district this week to hold a series of active shooter drills which wrap up Friday.

Media were invited to watch the role-playing exercises and photograph the officers training for a worst-case scenario.

The formal name for the training is the "Active Attack Integrated Response Course" where deputies are taught medical skills and guidelines for taking care of the wounded.

The course also allows for different law enforcement departments to coordinate their responses in order to avoid confusion if a real active-shooter situation were to happen.
