CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - On a normal day, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources job is to regulate hunting, fishing and boating. One day last week was not a normal day.
Sgt. Thomas Spann was off-duty in his personal car when he drove up on an accident near Pineville in Berkeley County.
The wrecked car was on fire. Even when off-duty, Sergeant Spann always had his SCDNR radio.
He stopped, called for help, then ran to the wreck. Spann smashed the windows and rescued a mother and three small children from the burning car.
There is no doubt his quick-thinking saved lives.
Sgt. Thomas Spann, in our book, you are a hero.
