Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney spoke to the media on Tuesday night for the first time since a video was released on social media of Tigers star defensive lineman Christian Wilkins dancing provocatively at the team's Ladies Clinic over the weekend.
Swinney, who was appearing at the annual Coaches for Charity event in Greenville, said it was a shame that more people weren't talking about the fact that the event raised $350,000 for breast cancer and were instead focused on one aspect of the event.
So this is the benefit of being a booster for Clemson..... pic.twitter.com/OKOS7kNRYx— Zack?? (@USC_Zack) July 21, 2018
The video shows Wilkins giving a 1-on-1 dance to one of the women at the clinic. He sits her down in a chair, then proceeds to rip off his shirt and grind on the floor. Video of the dance was released on social media.
"It was an unbelievable day" Swinney said. "Even when you do good and try to do good you get accused of doing bad. But you do good anyway." It's unfortunate that there was 15 seconds of the whole day that people focus on and really don't know the context."
“I guess it’s time for football because this is some very, very slow news that we’re talking about this.”Swinney said.
