CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - 18-year-old Lucian Rice is wanted for three counts of Strong Armed Robbery. Police say Rice attacked three woman on East Bay Street in Charleston's historic district back in May.
"He approached them, threw them to the ground and slugged them a couple of times," Charleston City Police Corporal Fred Bowie said.
Police say Rice and an accomplice took the womens' purses and then took off. Corporal Bowie says the victims were terrified.
"Absolutely, when you're approached like that and somebody stronger than you," he emphasized.
Police say the crime scene was the last place where you'd imagine someone ever getting attacked and they say that's exactly why Rice picked that spot to surprise his victims.
"Sometimes people can be lulled to sleep by their surroundings here," Corporal Bowie said. "It's so peaceful."
Cops say even though the suspect didn't use a weapon, the victims did the right thing by not fighting back.
"It's not worth it, fighting for a pocketbook or something that you can replace, and maybe losing something you can't replace," Corporal Bowie said.
Lucian Rice's last known address was on Dogwood Road West of the Ashley.
If you know where to find him, call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111. You do not have to give your name and can earn a cash reward.
