Colleton County deputy injured in fatal wreck

Colleton County, SC (WCSC) - One person died in a wreck that involved a Colleton County Sheriff's deputy Tuesday night.

The accident happened at the intersection of Green Pond Highway and Clover Hill Road at around 6:20 p.m., said South Carolina Highway Patrol L. Cpl. Bob Beres.

The two vehicles involved, the deputy's cruiser and a black Chevy pickup truck, were so mangled they were barely recognizable.

Colleton County Sheriff's deputy Scott McCoy and the truck's driver, Jake Wright, were airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina. Both were listed in stable condition Tuesday night.

A ten year old boy who was also in the truck was taken by ground to Colleton County Regional Medical Center. At last check, his condition was unknown.

The third person in the truck died. As of Tuesday night, the Colleton County coroner had not released the person's identity.

Investigators don't know how the wreck happened or who may be to blame.
