CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The best friend of a Goose Creek woman killed 13 years ago is hoping for justice now that the victim’s husband has been taken into custody for her murder.
Dan Hiers, who is accused of the 2008 murder of his wife, Ludimila Hiers, was arrested after being captured in China.
Dan had been living in the foreign country under a false name.
Lory Reeder, Ludimila’s best friend and coworker, says she began to lose hope that Dan would be found.
“He’s been gone for 13 years, so hope was lost for a minute but now it’s not,” Reed said.
Reed is now optimistic that the family will finally get closure.
“Oh my gosh I was so happy, so happy that her family can get justice,” she said. “I met her mom and her sister and they’re very sweet people.”
Ludimila is now remembered in a song written by another former co-worker. “It’s called Mila smiles because she had the best smile,” Reed said. “It says everything, everything about her.”
There is no word when Dan Hiers will be brought back to South Carolina to face charges.
