SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Fort Dorchester used an ineligible player in their season opening win over Glynn Academy in August and because of it the Patriots are forfeiting that victory head coach Steve LaPrad confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

Fort Dorchester beat Glynn Academy 37-21 in Georgia in Week 0. The coach said the player in question only took part in five plays during the game.

LaPrad said the issue with the player stemmed from a transfer student taking the wrong online class during summer school. The player in question signed up for a sophomore English class that he had already passed.

The team found out about the mistake after the game and informed the South Carolina High School League. The punishment was limited to forfeiting that one game. The SCHSL confirmed the punishment in an email to Live 5 News on Thursday.

The Patriots now stand at 4-1 on the season and will return home on Friday night to host West Ashley.
