HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Friends, family and members of the community gathered together Tuesday night at Peachtree Landing to remember Heather Elvis and other loved ones who are still missing from their families this year.

"As time goes on it’s not that things get easier or get harder, they’re just different,” said Morgan Elvis, Heather’s sister.

Tuesday marks five years since Heather Elvis was last seen. Cellphone records indicated her last cellphone activity was in the early morning hours of Dec. 18, 2013. Her car was found at Peachtree Landing one day later.

"We don’t want to do things without Heather that we did before, but then we don’t not want to do them with each other,” said Debbi Elvis, Heather’s mother.

Debbi Elvis said time is crucial in finding out where her daughter is and with every holiday and anniversary date that passes, she prays harder that it’s the last one they have to live without knowing.

“Now we have hope, more hope than we’ve had this whole time. We have hope that this year might be the last year that we have to not know,” said Debbi Elvis.

Tuesday night the family went to Peachtree Landing to celebrate their daughter and sister. The Elvis’ encouraged others to also attend, not just for Heather, but to also celebrate loved ones they may be separated from at this time.

"Know that it’s okay to feel that grief every single day and feel that pain every single day as long as you're finding ways to cope,” said Debbi Elvis.

The H.E.L.P.P. event is held every year on Dec. 18 in Heather’s honor. H.E.L.P.P. stands for Hope, Encouragement, Love, Purpose and Perseverance.

At the event, attendees were invited to write a loved one’s name on a luminary and celebrate their life and share their stories with others.
