Store owner honors fallen Florence officers with window display
FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – This holiday season, businesses in downtown Florence decked their store fronts with Christmas decorations, but one business stood out.
On West Evans Street at Lushaun’s Barber and Beauty is where you’ll find a store front memorial dedicated to the officers killed and wounded in the October 3 shooting in Vintage Place.
“This is called the Police Officer Drive so this is like their block,” owner Lushaun Moses said.
Every Christmas, Moses decorates the window at her shop, but this year has a more sentimental design.
"The cars are going to heaven and this is in the sky and these are the angels, that's Farrah and that's Carraway," Moses said.
Below the highway to Heaven sits police figurines and a snow globe snowman filled with photos of all seven officers involved in the fatal shooting. Moses recalled that fateful day that she said forever left a mark on the community.
“I had a couple of clients that came in. They were tearing up. They got emotional,” she said. “It was like family, like it happened to a family member or something. It was terrible, horrible.”
She says she knows one of the surviving Florence police officers, Travis Scott, who would sometimes patrol the area.
“Travis made sure that we got in the building safe,” Moses said. That’s how she said she came up with the idea for the design to make sure the sacrifice these officers make and dedication they have is never forgotten.
“It’s like a memory, you know what I’m saying, like I wish I had more pictures to show all the hard work they have done,” Moses said.
