CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A situation has been resolved after several law enforcement agencies were called to some off-campus housing near Coastal Carolina University’s campus.

CCU sent out an alert around 8 p.m., alerting students that there were reports of shots fired at Campus Walk Apartments, off of Youpon Drive. The students at the complex were told to shelter in place.

Horry County, Conway and CCU police departments were called to the scene where they said a man had barricaded himself into one of the apartments.

Officers evacuated all other residents from the complex while they tried to get the man out of the apartment. The HCPD Special Operations was called to the scene to help resolve the situation.

They used gas canisters as a tactic to get the man out of the apartment, according to Horry County Police Department spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov.

Just before midnight Thursday, police went into the apartment and took the man into custody. He was decontaminated since gas canisters were used on him and then being taken out to be evaluated. His name has not been released.

No one was hurt during the situation.

Once police cleared the scene, students who live in the apartment complex were allowed back to their homes.

Police are still trying to determine if shots were fired.
