NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - For years a section of 526 near the Don Holt has been in the dark. On Wednesday the SCDOT finished restoring electricity in the area.

The stretch of I-526 between Virginia Ave and Rivers Ave has been an area of concern for drivers and North Charleston officials. Mayor Keith Summey has been vocal about the issue.

“For the last several years, we’ve been fussing about the lights not working on I-526 in North Charleston making it very dangerous for cars traveling or someone broke down on the roadway. It’s been horrible,” Summey said. "While I was quick to fuss and quick to raise cane, I’m also here to acknowledge and to say thank you to SCDOT for getting our lights back on.

SCDOT says deteriorated power lines caused the lights to go out more than two years ago.

While electricity has been restored, a few lights are still out due to the amount of light bulbs that need to be replaced.
