NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police have charged a man in connection with a shooting in North Charleston in late March.

Tyrell Smith, 19, is facing charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Officers responded to Trident Hospital Center Pointe at approximately 10:10 p.m. on March 21 where they found Smith, who showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound, but was uncooperative, according to the incident report.

Smith told officers he was at the corner of Chicora Road and Calvert Street when he was shot, and then ran to his girlfriend’s house.

An officer said in bond court that Smith attempted to rob someone and the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Smith said he had been shot in the arm and torso, but said he did not know who shot him.
