McCLELLANVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Two people were injured Sunday night when a boat ran aground near the Intracoastal Waterway, according to first responders.
The Awendaw-McClellanville Fire District and Coast Guard Sector Charleston responded to the McClellanville Boat Landing shortly after 9 p.m., a post from the fire district’s Twitter account.
A Coast Guard spokesman said one boater was ejected when the boat struck a sandbar and a good Samaritan then took that victim ashore.
Firefighters say the victim was taken to an area hospital.
A second person who remained on the boat was also injured and was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of a possible back injury, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
The third boater was uninjured and was staying with the boat. Crews began clearing the scene at approximately 11 p.m., firefighters said.
The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the accident.
