CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -More traffic delays are being added to the list of difficult-to-navigate areas in the College Park Road area.

Some sections of Centennial Boulevard and Hamlet Circle will be closed beginning May 6.

Community members say they do understand that paving needs to be done in some areas, but they say they’re tired of having to weave in and out of traffic cones and delays when navigating the college park area.

The new closures and delays for paving are listed below:

Timeline:

  • Centennial Blvd. (portion from Crowfield Blvd. to Gainesborough Dr.) – Prepping road for work. Road closed from 05/06/19 through 05/10/19.
  • Centennial Blvd.- Resurfacing entire road, one lane will remain open. 05/13/19 through 05/17/19.
  • Hamlet Circle-Resurfacing two portions of road, one lane will remain open. 05/20/19 through 05/24/19 & 05/27/19 through 05/31/19.

These new delays are adding to the normal heavy traffic, the overpass damage and new buildings going up. Neighbors say they’re tired of so many road issues in one community.

“There’s a lot of places here that need a lot more work than this,” Carmen Haines, a driver says.

“If they keep closing areas to through traffic, St. James will be ridiculous, it’s ridiculous now, I can’t imagine what it’s going to be,” Barbara Ladue, a neighborhood homeowner says.

Berkeley County Officials say they hope to be done with all repaving for this project by Memorial Day as long as there’s no severe weather to hinder the workers from doing they’re job. If they aren’t able to stay on schedule, the completion date will be pushed back into June.
