BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -The PGA Professional Championship is taking place at Belfair in Bluffton this week.

Belfair residents have opened their homes to host players throughout the week, but one resident let us look inside his home to see that his passion for golf goes beyond the range and into his attic.

Doug Coupe used to spend his free time searching the water for golf balls.

“Some of which had logos," Coupe said. "I’d just throw those in a bucket and not really think a whole lot about it.”

Eventually, his collection began to grow.

“I started to get a lot of them and we had this big wall in our little condo up there," said Coupe. "I said, 'well I think I can display these, it might be kind of a conversation piece.”

That conversation piece is now the Coupe’s entire attic is complete with custom built shelving.

“You know, 15,000 balls later, it just keeps going and going,” said Coupe.

His friends now enjoy trying to find balls he may not have in his collection. Even some pros this week have added to his display.

“His fondest time is to show it to someone who’s never seen it,” said his wife Vivian.

His favorite is from Bushwood Country Club from Caddy Shack, but he’s got the PGA Professional Championship ball on full-display next to it this week.

Doug is hoping to get some of the golfers competing at Belfair this week will have time to come check out his collection.
