Group releases schedule of events for teacher rally at SC statehouse

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - On Wednesday, thousands of teachers and supporters will be heading to the South Carolina statehouse for a scheduled rally. SC for Ed is organizing the Wednesday rally, saying lawmakers have not done enough this year to help teachers after promising education reform.

SC for Ed has also released its schedule ahead of time with a number of speakers including CNN political analyst Bakari Sellers.

Schedule of Events

9 a.m.-9:45 a.m.

Register & Rally at the Department of Education

1429 Senate Street, Columbia SC 29201

9:45 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

March to and Around State House Grounds

10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Check-In and March Site

SC for Ed states the group will be meeting at 9:00am at the SC Department of Education at 1429 Senate Street, Columbia SC 29201. Organizers say to look for balloons to find QR codes and scan to “check-in.” QR codes will also be at the state house. Sheets will keep track of how many people are in attendance. The march to the State House will begin at the Department of Education.

MOBILITY: If you are unable to march for any reason, you are asked to report directly to the front of the State House (Gervais Street side).

-Rally Signs (no dowel rods)

-Bottles of Water

-Snacks

-Lawn Chair (optional)

If You Need Help

On Wednesday, SC for Ed will have several tents set up at the South Carolina State House. If you need any medical attention, please look for the tent labeled “MEDICAL.” There will be a nurse on hand who will be supplied with first aid materials. If you have questions or need information, there will be a tent labeled “INFORMATION.” SC for Ed representatives will be in white shirts with “STAFF” on the back.
