MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say a shooting in the Berkeley County area is believed to be a case of road rage.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said one person was shot in the 3400 block of Highway 52 north of Goose Creek Wednesday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office says the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. in the Strawberry community.

Crime scene tape was seen surrounding an 18 wheeler. Authorities say the victim was driving the vehicle when the incident occurred.

According to the sheriff’s office, it started as an aggressive driving incident between the driver of a red semi-tractor and a silver or gray sedan on Highway 52 near the intersection of Central Avenue in Goose Creek.

A report states after the aggressive driving incident, one of the drivers shot the other before fleeing the scene on Highway 52 near the Strawberry railroad crossing just north of Goose Creek.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from anyone with information about the incident.

“If you witnessed any part of this incident, please contact Det. Turner at (843) 719-5045,” BCSO officials said.

The victim was transported by EMS to an area hospital.
