Highway Patrol investigating fatal crash along I-95 in Colleton County

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - State troopers are investigating a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on I-95 that killed one passenger of an SUV and sent the driver to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday near mile marker 40 of I-95 according to Lance Cpl. Judd Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Jones said the driver of a 2010 Chevy Equinox was driving south on I-95 when the SUV went off the left side of the roadway into the median and struck a tree.

One of the five passengers in the vehicle died in the crash, Jones said. That victim’s identity has not yet been released.

EMS took the driver, a 44-year-old from North Carolina, to Colleton County Medical Center with minor injuries, he said.

Troopers are still investigating what led to the accident.
