SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The family of a victim of a stroke says a medical equipment company improperly set up oxygen equipment, causing the patient to suffocate.

John Harrison died on Nov. 5, 2018, the day after he was released from a hospital to go home, the suit states.

Harrison’s family is suing Special Care Medical of South Carolina, claiming that the company was supposed to set up all of his necessary medical equipment at his Summerville home, including oxygen, the suit states.

The family claims an employee from the company incorrectly installed the equipment and as a result, Harrison couldn’t get the amount of air he needed and died.

His family is asking for a jury trial and seeking unspecified damages for wrongful death, negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

The company has not yet returned a request for comment on the lawsuit.
