CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following a sweep of USC Upstate over the weekend, Charleston Southern junior lefty Jaret Bennett was named the Starting Pitcher of the Week and freshman outfielder Max Ryerson was tabbed the Freshman of the Week in the Big South, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Bennett tossed a complete game shutout Friday night to begin a dominant weekend for the Bucs as he struck out three and threw 20 first-pitch strikes in the win. The complete game was the first in Bennett’s career and it came in shutout fashion as he allowed six hits and was in control from the first pitch.
Ryerson hit another moonshot in the Bucs’ lone loss of the week versus CofC but drove in a team-high seven RBI’s and hit .400 helping the Bucs post 30 runs on 42 hits in a three-game set versus USC Upstate. Ryerson also hit two doubles and collected 11 bases while scoring twice.
The two honors are the first for both Bennett and Ryerson and marks the first time this season the Bucs have multiple conference players of the week at once.
