WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - A teacher in Colleton county is encouraging the love of reading, by allowing her students to curl up with a good book in class. But she needs your help to make their experience more comfortable.
The fourth graders at Hendersonville Elementary school in Walterboro soak up all kinds of adventures in Tyeesha Pruitt’s class. The students get to spread out on the floor for a relaxed reading experience. But right now, there are only a couple of bean bags and a husband pillow.
"And I requested flexible seats such as wobble chairs, bean bags and balance balls for my students," Tyeesha Pruitt said.
She listed her request on a website where the public can help pay for the flexible seating.
So far she's only received one donation on the Donors Choose website, and still needs $435 to meet her goal.
"My students could have more flexible seating and they will be more comfortable, while they are learning in the classroom," Pruitt said.
She says her students are more engaged in their work and more focused on learning, when allowed to cozy up with a book in class during reading time.
