NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police took a man into custody Wednesday morning who was threatening to harm himself at a North Charleston hotel.
The incident began at approximately 6:32 a.m. at the Charleston Grand Hotel, according to Charleston County dispatchers.
The man was armed with a knife, according to North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor. After a two-and-a-half hour standoff, police and negotiators were eventually able to persuade the man to willingly exit the room without incident, he said.
Charleston County EMS took the man for evaluation, Pryor said.
His identity has not been released and Pryor said no charges were filed in the incident.
Witnesses reported a large police presence outside the hotel and saw a man being led to an ambulance in handcuffs at approximately 9:45 a.m.
