DANIEL ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The ribbon is officially cut and the newest park on Daniel Island is open for play.
Wednesday morning, dozens of people attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at the park off of Island Park Drive. Construction started at the beginning of January and took about five months to complete.
The park is just over six acres. It contains two large play centers including swings and slides. There are also walking and biking trails all around and through the park. Exercise equipment is placed along those trails every few yards.
"This is a beautiful park for our citizens to enjoy forever,” City of Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said. “To create a space for the public realm, in particular a space where children can enjoy, I just believe it's a joy for our community and a real blessing."
The budget for the park was a little more than $500,000.
