Police searching for suspected porch pirate who reportedly fired shots after confrontation

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC) - Goose Creek Police are searching for a man who allegedly fired at least one shot in the air after being caught attempting to take a package from a porch.

The incident happened Wednesday morning on Lindenwood Court in the Crowfield Plantation subdivision.

Goose Creek Police Capt. Tom Hill said preliminary information indicates a homeowner caught someone trying to steal a package from a front porch in the neighborhood and confronted the would-be thief.

When confronted, the man went to his vehicle to leave the area and then fired a single shot into the air before leaving the scene, Hill said.

No one was injured in the incident.

The man who said he confronted the would-be thief did not want to be identified by name, but said he saw the man get out of his car and pick up a package off his neighbor’s porch. When the neighbor confronted him, the man handed the package back to him.

“My wife says she saw his arm come out the window like he was pointing back, trying to shoot at me or something like that, but I think he shot off in the air,” the man said.

The neighbor said the man fired two shots in the air.

Goose Creek Police are continuing to investigate and recovered shell casings in the street.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 843-863-5200 or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
