COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Colleton County deputies were able to locate a man reported missing from his home Friday within less than two hours of his disappearance.
Deputies responded shortly after noon to a report of a man who suffers from dementia who had wandered away from his home. The caller told deputies the man had been missing for approximately 45 minutes, according to a post on the agency’s Facebook page.
Sheriff R.A. Strickland and Colleton County deputies arrived and immediately set up a perimeter and began searching for the missing man.
Deputies searched for approximately 30 minutes when a local resident advised deputies that they believe they spotted someone matching the description close by. The man was found in the woods and deputies brought him to safety.
“Caring for our seniors is perhaps one of the greatest responsibilities we have, being able to care for them like they once cared for us is one of the highest honors,” Strickland said.
Photos on the post showed the man sitting with Strickland on the gate of a pickup truck.
